Welcome to the Milton Ulladulla Croquet Club
Our History
Milton Ulladulla Croquet Club was officially formed in 1999. Margaret Murray was conducting classes for about three years under the auspices of U3A on a small lawn at the Sarah Claydon Retirement Village. Playing on a lawn a quarter of the size recommended for playing croquet was a challenge for all who played. The club was then able to secure a half size lawn at Milton Ulladulla Bowling Club. The club membership expanded and the Milton Ulladulla Croquet Club was officially inaugurated in October 1999. The club played at the Ulladulla Bowling Club from 1999 to 2005.We then established a full-size lawn at the Milton Showground in 2006. Over the years, members have spent many hours assisting with the upkeep of the lawn and surrounds.
Margaret Murray was our Patron and a Life Member of the club having been largely responsible for introducing croquet to the district in the late 1990s and getting the Milton Ulladulla Club off the ground. A second Life Membership was awarded in 2025 to Jim Scarsbrook in recognition of his long and generous service to the club.
MUCC, together with the Shoalhaven City Council, undertook the development of a new location in Ulladulla. Two lawns were set up and MUCC contributed a sizeable amount of money to provide sheds and to assist with maintenance of the lawns. With two lawns, MUCC would be better placed to hold inter club competitions. However, funds were not available for the building of a clubhouse. Hence, the move proposed for 2021 did not eventuate.
In the meantime, through a grant provided by the Community Bank, we have refurbished the Milton clubhouse for our members and have made it a welcoming space for visiting clubs such as Probus and U3A.
MUCC started playing Association Croquet from the beginning but, as time has gone on, most members have preferred Golf Croquet.
